“If it will make for a good story, I’ll go for it!” – Shelby Stanger

San Diego-based writer, Shelby Stanger’s stories have been featured in Outside Magazine, Women’s Adventure, The San Diego Union Tribune, CNN.com, Laguna Beach Magazine, Shop-Eat-Surf.com (an industry trade site covering the multi-billion dollar action sports industry), Surfer Magazine, and South Africa’s Cape Argus Newspaper.

She has been a fitness and adventure columnist for several magazines, a contributing action sports business writer, the first female pit reporter on the infamous Vans Warped Tour, and has participated in adventures from bungee jumping and car bowling to frigid Canadian surfing and South African sandboarding — all for a story.

Shelby has also been the on-air host for two television shows: Resort Sports Network and GROMS; a surfing instructor on MTV’s MADE; and the only female to ever win the Breckenridge Pub Crawl Championship.

Outside of her career in journalism, Shelby previously was the international marketing manager at Vans, where she oversaw the iconic footwear brand’s activities in Asia, Latin America, Canada and the Australia/New Zealand regions. While at Vans, she also contributed chapters to the recently published Off the Wall: Stories of Sole From Vans Originals, a 207 page hardcover book published by Harry Abrams.

Constantly on the move, Shelby can be found chasing (or paddling) for stories focusing on unique personalities, innovative brands and uniquely designed products. She makes her home in La Jolla, CA, and in her free time, enjoys surfing, boxing, yoga and training for triathlons she never has time to enter.
